Cunningham Falls State Park Maryland

Cunningham Falls State Park, located west of Thurmont in the beautiful Catoctin Mountains, is named for a 78- bottom slinging cascade. Hiking, swimming, hunting, fumbling, picnicking, voyaging, playgrounds, 13 trailer cabins, and 180 campgrounds in two areas are available seasonally. The William Houck Area has a 43-acre lake and trail to the Falls; the Manor area includes Catoctin Furnace.

Girdled by the beautiful Catoctin Mountains, Cunningham Falls State Park is home to Maryland’s loftiest slinging cascade. A hiking trail and a short walking path both lead to the cascade, where callers enjoy panoramic views around. Other hiking trails of colorful difficulty situations weave through the demesne. Cunningham Falls is also home to the Periodic Maple Saccharinity Festival, which takes place every alternate and third weekend in March.

William Houck Lake is a popular spot in the summer with its flaxen sand and swimming areas. In fact, the demesne frequently reaches capacity beforehand in the day, so plan to arrive beforehand. Voyaging, fumbling, and picnics are also popular then. The demesne is a great place to see lots of native Maryland wildlife. The Scales and Tales program brings live calls of prey and reptiles to Cunningham Falls that can not be returned to the wild. Callers can get an immediate look at some of these amazing creatures at the Cunningham Falls Aviary, a true gem of Frederick County.
