It ends where it joins the Gauley River to make the Kanawha. The New is taken into account by some geographers to be the Kanawha and is usually referenced because of the Kanawha.

This cruise covers a six-mile stretch of the scenic river and takes passengers under the impressive New River Gorge Bridge that curves 876 feet above. On Bridge Day, which is the third Saturday in October each year, the bridge will be open to pedestrians, and events (concerts and parachute demonstrations, etc.) fill the day.
