  • No experience is needed.
  • There is no minimum age, but you must have a minimum weight of 50 kg, no maximum weight, but you must be able to bend a life jacket 58″
  • Please arrive at the meet-up point by 9:45 for your 10:15 launch.
  • The trip can be done in any condition, rain or shine.

Necessities You Must Bring

  • Water bottle.
  • Sunblock.
  • T-shirt (quick-dry recommended on cooler/rainy days),
  • Quick-drying shorts.
  • Swimsuit (important to bring when wearing a wetsuit).
  • River sandals or sneakers (wetsuits are provided at no extra charge).
  • Fur jacket/sweater (for travel in May and June or rainy days).
  • Had to block out the sun.
  • Waterproof camera.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Eyeglass straps and a change of clothes for after the trip.

River Rafting in Glacier National Park

Maneuver the raft through 9 rapids by following the simple instructions of this guide. Or, sit back and relax on this federally protected Wild and Scenic River if you prefer. The trip circled about 8 miles through John F. Stevens Canyon. The rapids are usually rated class II and III, making for a fun and exciting rafting adventure.

Arrive at 9:45 am to meet your guide and get ready for life jackets, helmets, and other necessary equipment. If you have pens or other medications, your guide can safely store them in a dry bag. At 10:15 am, take the bus for 20 minutes to the river. Your guide will launch the boat there, and you will start to float on the amazing river.

Start your journey on a quiet part of the river, giving you plenty of time to learn to paddle and adjust to being on the water. The rapids came towards the end of the trip, and photos of each boat were taken at a speed named Bonecrusher. Float under the historic Belton Bridge in Glacier National Park towards the end of the trip. Your guide will pick up a raft from the water in West Glacier. From there, it takes a 5-minute bus ride to where you start.

Apart from that, Glaciers are also prime real estate for rafting enthusiasts. And even if you only have time on the weekends, the views of Mount Glacier and its many affordable activities add a pretty good value to this trip.

Rafting Duration

The length of the trip depends on the flow of the river. From June to early July, the trip lasts about 2.5 hours, from mid-July to early August, about 3 hours, and from mid-August to the end of the season, about 3.5 hours. Safety is always the number one priority, so you don’t have to worry.

Guides undergo training in river rescue techniques, first aid, and more. Many guides return year after year. If conditions require a wetsuit and river shoes, or if you prefer to wear splash gear, they are always available at no extra cost. Wearing a helmet is mandatory.

Lodging Near Glacier National Park

Visitors arriving from the airport in Kalispell, which is about 25 miles southwest of the park, generally start at the West Glacier entrance on Route 2. Another major gateway is the St. Glacier entrance. Mary on the east side, accessible from Route 89. The Great Falls Airport, Montana, is 200 km from West Glacier. Car rental is available at both airports. You can save about $10 per day on your rental by booking with an off-airport company, such as a budget-friendly location about five minutes from Kalispell airport. If you book in advance, a rental car shuttle will be waiting for you when your flight arrives.

In West Glacier, the recently renovated Belton Chalet, with standard rooms starting at $130, was designated a National Historic Site in 2000 and features comfortable accommodations, a throwback feel, and the best food in the West Glacier area. The bar has six beers, a cold Moose Drool chocolate beer on the side of the bottle, and a minced meat sandwich. This is the place to go for a nice dinner or a night out after a long day in the wilderness.

Glacier Park, Inc., manages many other properties in and around the park, most notably, the historic Many Glacier Hotel on the east side. Standard rooms start at $140; suites for $299. Those prices will give you considerable historic charm, “amenities” like running water. If you’re looking for more reasonable rates, try the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn, with room rates starting at $43.
